I’m sitting here eating a couple of vegan hot dogs with all the trimmings, and I get brought a bowl of chickpea, cucumber, tomato salad. Halfway through I get that all too familiar feeling “oof, getting full.” Usually I power through it and end up painfully so.
Why? Good question. I think I’ve got this automatic thought that says something like “if you stop eating when you get this feeling, you will be hungry in an hour” and it’s something I haven’t dealt with.
I’ve heard a lot of people in the dieting, fasting, keto community talk about “satiety signals”.. What I’m describing above is a signal that borders on my gut literally speaking to me. I’m not sure if it’s stretch receptors, or leptin, but it seems to me that part of mindful eating is to be able to “hear” these signals.
It’s interesting that a recent mindful eating course I completed almost entirely consisted of fifteen minute long body scans.
